We love repotting succulents and cactus - which is great, because we do it every day! Today we’re sharing our tricks and top tips for keeping your cacti and succulents alive and thriving.
]]>Oftentimes, it all goes awry when people embark on repotting succulents at home. It always makes us sad to see another poor succulent skeleton brought back into the shop for a refresh, so today we’re sharing our best practices for successful repotting to keep them looking happy and healthy for as long as possible! Check out our succulent care repotting tips below.
It’s important to pay attention to your plants’ growth cycles when considering repotting (this is a rule of thumb for all of your houseplants!) You should repot at the beginning of the succulent’s growth period, as repotting during the dormancy period could disrupt their growing cycle. Spring or fall are usually the best repotting times. If your succulent’s roots are growing out of the bottom of the pot or the plant looks far too large for its current vessel, it’s time for an upgrade!
Always repot in a pot that is a bit larger than the old one, and choose one with a drainage hole. Succulents - and especially cacti - don’t like sitting in standing water. A drainage hole ensures that even if you accidentally overwater, at least the excess water won’t stay trapped, creating an unfavorable swamp at the roots. Set on using that perfect pot you found, even though it doesn’t have a drainage hole? No worries, we completely understand! Line the bottom with rocks so you have a drainage buffer, and be extra careful when watering the succulents. Choose rocks that are on the larger side - think grape-sized.
Succulents are adapted to dry climates with rocky, sandy soil. So plopping them into your average garden soil is not going to be a recipe for happy plants! Use well-draining soil or cactus mix that is crumbly and sandy, with a variety of particle sizes to ensure it stays well-aerated.
Unless you plan on hand-mixing your soil, stay away from soils that have a bunch of organic matter such as peat moss, coconut fibers, or bark. These are common elements that are great for many houseplants but retain too much water for more delicate succulents. Instead, look for soils that have minerals like pumice or perlite. There are a lot of great succulent soil options that you can explore! We like Miracle-Gro Cactus, Palm, & Citrus Mix, which we combine and mix with coarse sand and perlite.
Now that we’ve got the basics covered, see below for a step-by-step succulent repotting guide!
If the plant is still in its plastic grower’s pot, this is a bit easier. Tip the pot on its side and gently crush it down with your palm or forearm. You want to compress and loosen the soil so that you can softly shake or slide the plant out. If it’s already in a ceramic pot, carefully use a trowel or your hands to loosen the soil until you can slide the plant out. Be careful not to damage the root system!
When repotting prickly cactus, we highly recommend wearing thick, latex-dipped garden gloves and using tongs to handle them.
This will encourage new root growth and help shake away any old soil. Gently crumble soil away from the root system until most of the old soil is clear, but the roots are still intact.
Place the plant on top of the new soil, making sure it’s centered in the pot and the base of the plant is just short of flush with the edge of the pot. Add your potting mix around all sides of the plant, but don’t compress or pack the soil too tightly! You want it to be loose enough for proper aeration.
Give your succulent slightly more water than usual after a repotting. We love finishing our cacti and succulent pots with a layer of beautiful white sand for a clean look, or with elegant crystals like clear quartz or desert rose.
And there you have it! A professional repotting that can be done at home.

]]>It feels like April flew by! If Mother’s Day snuck up on you, not to worry. We have beautiful and thoughtful gifts for every mama in your life.
]]>If it snuck up on you, no worries… it snuck up on us too! Thankfully, we have plenty of thoughtful gifts, lovely spring floral arrangements, and curated items for the home. Spoil every mama in your life - they deserve it.
Caring for cut flowers will help them stay fresh and beautiful for as long as possible! Click to read our tried and true tips for how to make flowers last longer.
]]>There’s nothing quite like having beautiful fresh cut flowers in your home. They bring a sense of life to any space and can inspire elegant serenity or bright joy.
The inevitable sacrifice is that their beauty is fleeting. Though you can’t prevent them from eventually withering in their vase, we have a handful of tips that you can follow to help keep your flowers looking fresh and beautiful for as long as possible!
Changing out the water daily with cool tap water or filtered water is the best possible way to keep cut flowers fresh. Bacteria builds up in the vase, so emptying your vase and filling it with fresh water will do wonders for extending the life of your cut flowers.
If your arrangement is too large to be lifted from its vase or it’s arranged in floral foam, you can top off your vase with fresh water rather than changing it out entirely. If possible, change in your kitchen sink to overflow the vase and flush out as much of the old water as possible, being careful not to wet any of the flower petals.
Florist tip - Should you use flower food? It definitely doesn’t hurt, but it’s not necessary! In our years of testing and experimenting, we’ve found that changing the water is the single most important thing you can do to make flowers last longer, and flower food didn’t make a discernible difference.
Fresh cut flowers are thirsty! Some stems drink more water than others, and larger arrangements will drink water very quickly. Keep the vase filled to the top so that stems stay cool and have more than enough water to drink.
Florist tip - are there hydrangeas in your arrangement? Mist the petals daily! This humidity-loving flower drinks water through its petals, meaning that it can sometimes falter in our dry desert environment.
Giving your flowers a fresh trim as often as possible will help them absorb water as they age, and remove any bacteria that starts to grow. Trim ½” off at a 45-degree angle to provide more surface area for water intake and prevent your stems from sitting flush against the bottom of the vase - which hinders their ability to drink and increases bacteria build up.
Though flowers love basking in the sunlight while they grow, direct sunlight is actually the quickest way to wilt cut flowers. Don’t place them directly in sunbeams - opt for indirect light or a shady spot in your home. Don’t place your arrangement in the direct path of your AC vents, as the airflow will dry out the petals. In the wintertime, keep them in the coolest spot possible - heat will kill them very quickly!
p.s. Don’t forget - we offer a 48-hour guarantee on all of our fresh flower arrangements. We always send out the freshest blooms, and our designers carefully check each flower arrangement before they’re sent out, but flowers can be fickle! If any of your flowers have died within the first two days of receiving them, please email us photos of your arrangement and we will happily work with you on replacing the stems that didn’t last.

Changing the planet starts on a local level. This Earth Day, we’re highlighting Phoenix’s wins for the planet and ways in which you can help our local ecosystem.
]]>Environmentalism and combating climate change can often feel incredibly overwhelming. Our world is so large and complex. As with any complex system, there is a lot of nuance and many facets to each challenge, which can make it feel impossible to tackle them as individuals. While there have been great strides towards sustainability - from the US rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, the fact that wind and solar energy are beginning to out-compete fossil fuels in many regions of the world, the creation of more marine protected areas throughout our oceans, and so much more - there is still a lot of work to be done.
In the face of such overwhelming problems, we always find ourselves focusing on what we can do. Small steps and little changes in our community pave the way for larger shifts in the right direction on a global scale. Here are some of the amazing eco-friendly initiatives happening here in Phoenix:
Phoenix recently became a member of the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, a network of the world’s major cities committed to addressing climate change. Phoenix is committing to a target of net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 2050 and to conform to the Paris Agreement.
Our city’s Climate Action Plan includes sweeping and ambitious goals for reducing the heat island effect by increasing the tree canopy and public park spaces, increasing public transportation availability, supporting local food systems, and ensuring water reliability.
What you can do:
Write an email to your Councilmember and Mayor Gallego, or sign up to speak in upcoming Council budget meetings to voice your support for sustainability projects and Climate Action funding.
Plant local trees and landscape with native desert plants to conserve water, combat the heat island effect, and help the local ecosystem flourish.
Recycled City is a Phoenix compost company that will collect your food waste and deliver fresh compost bins to your home each week. Composting reuses food waste, which would otherwise end up in a landfill as a major greenhouse gas emitter. Composting sustainably fertilizes crops and enriches soil of our local farms.
Other food that is still consumable but would otherwise go to waste now has an avenue for use in Phoenix thanks to Waste Not - a nonprofit that collects prepared foods that would otherwise be wasted, and delivers them to partner organizations to help combat hunger and food insecurity.
What you can do:
Sign up for Recycled City’s compost program or set up your own home compost for backyard gardening or donation to your favorite local farm.
Help Waste Not deliver their 3 million meals annually across the Valley by donating or volunteering.
Try to be mindful about your food purchases and consumption and plan your meals to buy only what you need in order to reduce waste (in the US, households are the largest contributor to food waste - with the average household wasting approximately 21% of food purchased).
Purchasing locally-sourced food and consuming seasonal regional produce is good for the environment, and hugely beneficial for our local economy and communities. Unlike large corporate farming operations, local farms are community-centered, and utilize practices that keep soils healthy, protect water sources, and maintain more sustainable growing methods.
The integration of community involvement in small farms and creating affordable access to fresh, healthful local food for underserved communities is a thriving initiative in Phoenix thanks to non-profit groups such as Spaces of Opportunity, the Orchard Community Learning Center, and the TigerMountain Foundation.
What you can do:
Opt to shop at your local farmer’s market for produce and household staples, or sign up for a local CSA. When shopping at the grocery store, choose organic options and in-season produce whenever possible, and center your meals around fruits and vegetables for a diet that’s healthy for both you and the planet.
We’ll be celebrating our beautiful earth and cultivating new growth in Phoenix in partnership with the Desert Botanical Garden for Arbor Day. Stay tuned for more information, which will be released on our Instagram this week!

]]>You may know Arcadia very well, but you may not know the roots of the thriving Phoenix neighborhood. Today we’re diving into the history of the neighborhood that we love so much.
]]>We just love this photo of our sweet shop gal Julia at her Acradia home with her chicken Peaches!
You may know Arcadia neighborhood for its sprawling homes and its plethora of restaurants - but did you know that the area’s popularity stemmed almost exclusively from citrus?
The first citrus grove in Arizona was planted in 1899 near 56th Street and Indian School Road, where it thrived thanks to the rich soil at the base of Camelback Mountain and the cool waters from the canal. As the 20th century began, varieties of lemons, limes, grapefruit, and oranges consistently out-performed other crops in the area, and Arcadia became filled with peaceful groves of the colorful fruits.
Naval oranges became especially popular, as they had the highest return on investment and were able to be harvested early in November - allowing Phoenix growers to pack their harvest onto trains bound for Chicago and the East Coast before their California competitors, and just in time for Thanksgiving.
This abundance of growth only spurred more. There’s a reason why citrus is listed as one of the “Five C’s of Arizona” - and Arcadia was the epicenter. Investors, farmers, and prospectors flocked to the area, and by the 1920’s Arcadia had begun to feel like an oasis in the desert, with hundreds of groves filling the air with the scent of orange blossoms and the sound of birdsong.
Neighborhoods began popping up with affluent estates that had sloping lawns and citrus trees of their own, and the state’s first resorts were built at the base of Camelback amid the shade of the trees. The Cook Mansion, now known as the Royal Palms Inn, the Paradise and Jokake Inn’s, which would go on to become what is now the Phoenician, and Elizabeth Arden’s Phoenix luxury spa outpost, the Maine Chance retreat.
There may be more houses than orange trees in the neighborhood now, but Arcadia was built entirely on a foundation of growth, and we continue to celebrate these roots by bringing fresh cut flowers and vibrant plants to the neighborhood!

Welcome spring and honor your beloved traditions for Passover and Easter. We have beautiful flower arrangements for your table and your celebrations.
]]>We love the celebrations and the traditions of Passover and Easter alike. They arrive with anticipation and in unity every Spring, just as sweet daffodils, delicate hellebores, and magnolia blossoms do.
Both are an honoring and a celebration of duality - life and death, sorrow and joy, fear and hope.
Passover asks us to reflect on the bitterness of slavery and oppression while rejoicing and giving thanks for freedom and salvation. The seder table is filled with symbols that remind us of these contradictions - Matzah is the bread of the oppressed and the freed, the fresh green karpas symbolize the freshness of spring that are nevertheless dipped in salt water to represent tears, and beitzah, the roasted egg, represents both the cycle of life and the sacrifice of death that is inherent to it.
Easter, too, embraces eggs as a sign of spring and as a symbol of rebirth, celebrating the return of Christ from his tomb, and so we decorate them and use them to create joyful games. The traditional Easter roasted lamb represents the sacrifice of “the Lamb of God”. The beloved Easter bunny is rooted in pagan fertility symbology, serving as a welcome for abundant life and Spring abundance.
Both are, at their core, a story of rebirth and hope. As we begin to emerge from the strangeness and uncertainty of the past year, what better backdrop for such celebrations than the abundance and loveliness of fresh flowers? We have beautiful Spring arrangements to grace your table and brighten your home.

]]>We feel so lucky and honored to have an amazing team of women - all of whom are creative, powerful, and beautiful inside and out. Today we’re celebrating them and all of the other amazing ladies in our lives.
]]>Camelback Flowershop would not exist without the creative, hard-working, intelligent, talented, and tenacious women that have worked with us over the years. We love International Women’s Day because we love any excuse to celebrate and honor all of the astounding women that make our lives so vibrant and filled with so much grace and compassion.
Our team especially inspires us. To mark the occasion this year, we’ve asked our staff about the women that inspire them, and we want to take a moment to celebrate the ladies that they love.
“Chanel Miller. She’s the author of Know My Name. She’s inspired me to reflect on myself. To view the different facets of myself in the past, in my present, and what’s possible for my future. Reading her book helped me view myself as more human. I used to think of vulnerability as a weakness, but she’s helped me to shift my perspective and celebrate it instead.”
- Prue
“My mom and my sister. They never hesitate to lift me up when I need it most. My boyfriend's mom. She’s so supportive and she’s always a pillar of strength.”
- RiRi
“Mia Bianco. She’s the most patient human I've ever met - and wickedly funny and insanely smart. She's a fucking inspiration, that one. Everyone here in the shop. We have some badass babes here, who are all so unique, and every single one is so good at so many different things. I admire them all. Charleen Badman. She advocates for people all the time and is incredibly talented. When she won her James Beard Award, she used the spotlight to highlight and celebrate other people in the state. I love her humility and her passion for her work.”
- Erin
“Morgan Harper Nichols. She’s an artist, poet, feminist, and mental health advocate. Her work is beautiful and everything that she posts on Instagram is really inspiring and uplifting, which is really refreshing!”
-Trinity
“My mom. She launched her own business while she was a stay-at-home mom ten years ago. Now, she has three stores throughout Arizona, and she never complains about the stress or the difficulties. I want to be as successful as her one day.”
- Clara
“Frida Kahlo. I love the way that she loved. I admire how strong she was, and the grace she had in coping with her pain and hardships. Teresa. It’s amazing to work with her and learn from her. She's so talented, creative, and an amazing business woman.”
- Maria
“My twin sister. She’s a badass mother, I look up to her so much. My mom. She is also an amazing mother and such a hard worker. She raised us while also following her dreams to work as an entrepreneur. They're both so strong, and they push me to be better.”
- Marin
“Mel Kadel. I’m lucky to have one of her pieces, and it brings me so much joy! Her perception makes me think of life a little differently. I’m so inspired by her work, her creativity, and the success that she’s built and worked so hard for.”
- Lori
“My mom. She's my best friend and she always knows exactly the right thing to say. My boyfriend's mom. She’s such a kind spirit and is such a good mom to her boys!”
- Madie
“Patti Smith. She’s a badass who paved the way for women in arts and music. Also, in the chaos of today’s world, her Instagram feels like one of the last safe and gentle spaces on the internet, for which I’m really grateful.”
- Kathryn
“My grandma. She's had a difficult life but you wouldn’t know it from how joyful and positive she is. She’s an artist. She always looks for beauty in everything and has always been very encouraging. When I was a kid she would take us outside and point out to us all of the beautiful things in nature. She’s 84 now, yet she still insists on being the caretaker for her best friend, who’s 95!”
- Kristena
“Yrsa Daley-Ward. Her writing is beautiful and evokes so much feeling - reading her work was literally life-changing for me. Plus, being around her energy feels like basking in the sun. She’s so full of curiosity and zest and compassion. My best friend Kaitlynn. She has so much energy and works so hard, it’s crazy. She’s also one of the most compassionate and caring people I’ve ever met, and I admire her capacity and desire to always help people... and dogs! My mom. She’s endlessly patient, unconditionally loving, and super wise. I look up to her so much.”
- Alana
“My daughter. Every day she amazes me with her talent, her creativity, and her genuine kindness. She's an incredible artist and entrepreneur, who’s so independent and driven to succeed in all of her dreams.”
- Jess
“Artemisia Gentileschi. She was a Baroque painter in Italy, a profession that was virtually inaccessible to women at the time. Her trailblazing is so inspiring to me, and she is now recognized as one of the most progressive painters of the period. On top of her artistic skill, she was also incredibly brave because she went to trial against a man who sexually assaulted her and won the case - something completely unheard of at that time.”
- Elle
“Everyone at the shop. I am insanely inspired by the women I'm surrounded by at work. Each and every single gal brings their own magical energy to the shop to make up a truly badass team of women who will always go out of their way to lift each other up.”
- Miranda
Celebrate all the ladies in your life this weekend!
Spring is almost here! If you haven’t planted your garden yet, don’t worry - today we’re chatting about the best flowers and succulents to plant right now that will survive our desert summer temperatures.
]]>We’re recommending some of our favorite options to plant right now so that your yard stays beautiful and verdant - even in the wicked heat of summer. We’ve specifically picked plants that grow well with full sun exposure, for easy planting and low-effort maintenance. Take a look!
Not only is this plant dramatic and romantic - it's also incredibly easy to care for and very difficult to kill! The iconic Bougainvillea loves bright direct sunlight and thrives in Arizona's sunny weather, even in the extreme heat of summer. Though it can also do well in filtered shade, we love its ability to be planted in those tricky sun-drenched spots in your yard where everything else seems to falter. Water deeply to encourage lush growth, and plant a trailing, high-climbing variety next to a trellis or pergola for crazy beautiful vines that will provide decadent shade.
Perennial bloom - blooms nearly year-round
Plant: March - November
Sun: full sun or filtered shade
Water: water deeply every 7-14 days - allow to dry out in between waterings
These cheerful, bright beauties are a Southwestern member of the daisy family. Zinnias can thrive in full sun but they do like rich, nutrient-packed soil, so they’re a better fit for planting beds than your yard’s natural rocky soil. They bloom in early spring and continue producing colorful flowers throughout the summer and into fall. Prune withered flowers to encourage new blooms!
Annual bloom - will need to be replanted next year
Plant: February - June
Sun: full sun or filtered shade
Water: water lightly daily, or deeply once per week
Arguably our favorite succulent, Elephant’s Food can look both playful and refined, and suits practically any style of pot or planter. It absolutely loves the sun and doesn’t mind being neglected, so it’s fairly worry-free. It sprawls and drapes, so you can plant it in a hanging pot to extend from your front porch, or in a large, wide planter and watch it grow.
Grows well year-round - protect from frost in winter
Plant: Year-round
Sun: full sun, part shade, or bright indirect sun
Water: water deeply, roughly once per week - allow to dry out in between waterings
Simple, elegant Vinca is a low-profile sprawling shrub that will easily fill wide spaces but is also surprisingly perfect for narrow planters and pots thanks to its small stature. You’ll most often see the star-shaped blooms in bright pinks or crisp white, which will last all summer long. Plant them in well-draining soil, because you’ll need to water them daily - this will encourage productive blooming and prevent the Vinca from getting “leggy”.
Perennial bloom - will bloom again next year
Plant: March - June
Sun: full sun or part shade
Water: water lightly daily
We love delicate, wild, playful cosmos - we use them in arrangements often for a touch of character and whimsy. Cosmos flower in the middle of summer, providing a lovely pop of color to enjoy when so many other plants are struggling. They’re incredibly resilient - they so easily tolerate poor soil and scarce waterings that you can even scatter seeds across your yard rather carelessly for a natural wildflower aesthetic.
Annual bloom - will need to be replanted next year
Plant: March - June
Sun: full sun or filtered shade
Water: water weekly
There are so many other beautiful and interesting options for planting in Arizona! We always recommend planting native species as much as possible, because they’re better for the environment, help us protect native pollinator populations, use less water, and of course are best suited to thrive in our desert home.
Have questions about what to plant on your patio or in your garden? Stop by our shop, our team would love to help!

]]>
Josh and I ran in the same circles. One of my dearest friends was close to him, and his best friend was the husband of my best friend. At various points - and with almost annoying consistency - they all kept insisting: “You guys would be great together.”
This stubborn matchmaking culminated in a party that, unbeknownst to me, was arranged with the goal of artfully, though not quite subtly, nudging us together.
I was taking a moment to myself later in the evening, dipping my feet in the pool and savoring my glass of wine - and realized that everything had gone quiet. Everyone had moved inside, with the exception of Josh. I found out after the fact that this was deliberate. Our friends had ushered everyone away and had even gone so far as to strategically place the Bluetooth speaker close to us and set some mood music (they’re ridiculous, and also the best).
I remember him asking, “What could go wrong?”
And my response: “All the things.”
Nearly five years later, and all the things have gone right. It’s been a joy to raise our kids together, to build a home together, to travel and play together. It’s a partnership that’s been challenging in all the best ways, and easy in all the important ways.
]]>
We’ve compiled a list of our favorite Valentine’s date at home ideas to inspire you and help you dote on your person.
]]>Creating a meal together can be a much better way to bond than over a restaurant table. Pick up a new cookbook and choose a recipe or two that intrigues you or pushes you to try a new style of cuisine (we love the beautiful Six Seasons by Joshua McFadden and the beloved Anthony Bourdain’s Appetites). Is cooking together already a regular part of your routine? Shake it up with a playful cooking competition. Pick select ingredients to use for creating different plates, or create two unique takes of the same dish, and see who proves to be the top chef. Recommended appetizers? Fun tunes, lit candles, and dancing together in the kitchen.
Not confident in your cooking skills? Order a decadent dinner to-go from one of our favorite Phoenix spots: Tratto, Restaurant Progress, Valentine, or Glai Baan.
Get out into nature and get some endorphins rushing. We love the lesser-populated trailheads at Piestewa, the huge network of trails crisscrossing South Mountain, and the short but challenging Black Mountain and longer remote Elephant Mountain trails of Cave Creek. Even more adventurous? Book a horseback ride through the desert at sunset. For something more relaxed, pack a picnic and pick a park (like Encanto, Los Olivos, or Papago). Throw together some decadent sandwiches or a charcuterie selection - and don’t forget wine and chocolate.
One of the best things about partnership is getting to play together. Try something artistic that you’ve never done before, or revisit something you used to love. Something as simple as finger-painting or drawing portraits of one another, playing instruments together, playing with clay, or pretending to be art students while painting a still life of your fruit bowl. If one of you is more artistically-inclined, have fun teaching your lover some techniques! Compare your creations to the masters with a virtual stroll in beautiful museums across the globe.
Elevate your at-home movie game by each picking your all-time favorite romance movies, creating your own movie-viewing drinking game, or planning around a theme. A marathon of classics like Casablanca and Breakfast at Tiffany’s, or a selection of goofy rom-coms. Popcorn, sweet treats, and beer or bubbles are a must. Bonus points if you have a projector that you can set up for a luxurious backyard viewing party, or if you make it playful with a cozy blanket fort in the living room.
When was the last time you simply did nothing but listen to music and enjoy one another’s company? The art of slowing down creates a night of decadent quality time together. Pick up a bottle of wine, select your favorite records from your home collection (or find some fresh options from Stinkweeds, Zia, or In Groove) and take turns acting the DJ. For a sweet surprise, curate a playlist just for them and text them a link, so that they can enjoy songs that remind them of you whether you’re together or apart.
Write each other love letters to cherish forever. Not that great with words? Seek inspiration from modern love poems and classic ones - like the works of Yrsa Daley Ward, Atticus, Rupi Kaur, e.e. cummings, John Keats, or Pablo Neruda. Pick out your favorite pieces that remind you of them, and text them to read throughout the day.
Explore their love languages and spark intimate conversation by asking one another these 36 questions that deepen connection and bring you closer.

Valentine’s Day is for love. In all its forms - for your sweetheart, your spouse; your children, your grandchildren; your coworkers and your friends, for your relatives and yourself. We’ve always been big believers in championing this day for care and self-care (how could we not, working in a flowershop??), and this year more than ever we’re shouting it from the rooftops.
We’re cherishing the things that bring us together - the things that make us feel close and feel seen in a world that feels increasingly chaotic and divided. We’re celebrating little joys and touches of beauty. We’re loving big and we’re staying connected.
It won’t be this way forever. Until then, send flowers.
Introducing our 2021 Valentine’s Day Collection. It’s filled with elegance and understatement, sweetness and softness, enigmatic hues and classically romantic colors. We’ve designed tender statements of affection and statement pieces that will blow them away. For a year that’s been filled with heartache and drama - we’ve rebelled with heartbreaking beauty and dramatic blooms.
Get a first look at the collection below. We hope you love it, and we hope you love and feel loved this Valentine’s Day.
For the Valentine that loves desert vibes. This minimalist arrangement conjures up the romance of the southwest. Trailing amaranthus drapes elegantly and white anthurium tinged with blush reaches delicately upward. This design is built in a limited edition black ceramic vase from local potter Bettina Chow, designed exclusively for Camelback Flowershop’s 2021 Valentine’s Day Collection.
If you’re looking for dramatic and jaw-dropping this Valentine’s Day… look no further. This bloom-heavy arrangement is inspired by the intoxicating rush of new love and the deep devotion it blooms into. It’s packed with sumptuous red roses, ranunculus, tulips, amaryllis, and peach pink proteas. The Sunday Love is available in a standard size and as an extra-large arrangement - for when you want to really spoil them.
Classically romantic and effortlessly elegant. We’ve arranged an assortment of our favorite garden roses in Valentine’s Day hues that will leave them love-struck, in a matte black vase that is utterly alluring.
Tip: Purchase both so that she can have Valentine’s Day vibes throughout the house. We love the large for an entryway or dining table arrangement, and the smaller arrangement for her bedside - so she can wake up dreaming of you.
We’ve created a modern and clean design to match the sweet simplicity of one of our favorite Raawii vases. Blush-tinged anthurium and an array of red roses offer a look that’s at once timeless and fresh.
Let the flowers do the talking for you this Valentine’s Day. Boasting beautiful white anthurium and dark maroon magnolia leaves, this one is a dramatic and sultry design. It’s arranged in a custom vase from our exclusive Bettina Chow collection, so she can cherish your gift for years to come.
A dreamy and wild design that hints at golden hour in the desert and sunrise over the sand dunes. This soft mauve and cream-colored arrangement is classic Camelback Flowershop style and filled with roses, carnations, and anemones, with a touch of texture from natural pampas grass and wine-colored ferns. Two available options: a breathtaking standard size, or a heartbreakingly beautiful extra large arrangement.
Not for the conventional or faint of heart - this one brings all of the drama. We’ve carefully painted tropical anthurium blooms for an arrangement that’s modern, maximalist, and luxe. Arranged in a charcoal black Bettina Chow vase from her exclusive Valentine’s Day collection, designed just for us.
Simple, sweet, and conveniently ready to grab and go. This popular wrap expresses affection and warmth. Dramatic red roses are balanced by dainty pink carnations, white hydrangea, and airy eucalyptus.
A wrap that will wow. This flower-filled design is a contrasting palette of pink roses, pale anthurium, deep red roses, and dark plum ranunculus. Lush, sumptuous, and seductive. Available in a standard size, and a massive stop-her-in-her-tracks showstopper size.
For the love that’s forever. Available in soft neutrals or bright pinks, these wraps of preserved and dried florals rival the beauty of fresh blooms - but don’t need any water. Simply arrange them in your favorite vase and enjoy them all year long.
A sultry gift box providing all of the components you need for a romantic night in.
Limited edition Milla chocolate bar tantalizes their tongue and a Ritual Marfa candle and Tennen incense - in their beautiful brass Agave Incense Holder - surrounds you with intoxicating aromas. A sexy smokey quartz crystal and petite Valentine’s floral arrangement complete the vibe. Enjoy your date night in!
The fastest way to win their heart? Chocolate, of course. Spoil them with local treats and fresh blooms.

Even more treats? Yes, please! They’ll love these French macarons and heart-shaped sugar cookies from Ruze Cake House. Write them a sweet note on a hand-painted Valentine’s Day greeting card, and woo them with a petite Valentine’s floral arrangement in a black vase.

]]>If ever your spirit and your space needed a good energetic reset, it’s at the close of this awful year! Take a look at our favorite crystals and other tools to cleanse your sacred spaces and welcome in positivity and good vibes for 2021.
]]>There have been a lot of energies swirling around in 2020... most of them pretty awful. We've always been fans of cleansing our spirits and spaces at important junctures, and the end of 2020 feels like the most perfect time to reset and welcome fresh new things for the year ahead.
Just as it's important to tend to the physical aspects of your home - clearing away clutter, dusting, sweeping, and taking out the trash - it's equally important to pay attention to the energetic aspect of your spaces. Energy can collect and stagnate just as physical objects can. Here are some tips to clear away negative or trapped energy, and refresh and protect your space.
The burning of herbs, spices, and resins in spiritual rituals is an ancient practice that’s been explored in many ways in cultures around the world. Perhaps the two that have been most popularized are the burning of sage and Palo Santo. Indigenous tribes of North America have utilized White Sage and other herbs in smudging rituals to open ceremonies and cleanse people and spaces for centuries, while Amazonian tribes ceremoniously burn the wood of the Palo Santo tree to chase away negativity and evil spirits. You can utilize these powerful materials in your own home through a smoke cleansing practice. Here are some of our recommendations!
Crystals are not only a beautiful addition to a home, they are also an instant way to shift energies and vibrations. Each crystal has unique properties and benefits. Crystals can become burdened with energy interaction, so it’s important to clean them and restore them! You can cleanse your crystals with smoke cleansing or a saltwater bath, and recharge them with sunshine or the light of the full moon. Take a look at some of our favorites gems below!
This beautiful purple stone is one of the most recognizable and popular crystals. It is a calming stone that promotes balance, patience, peace. It was used by ancient Greeks to ward off drunkenness and overindulgence and has been worn by Catholic bishops to promote grounding and spiritual connection. Amethyst stimulates the third eye and the crown chakra, which enhances intuition and spiritual wisdom.
This smoke-colored crystal was sacred to the Druids of Scotland and associated with the Greek goddess Hecate, the goddess of magic. It balances the root chakra by connecting you to the energies of the earth and helps absorb negative energies, making it a wonderful stone to help you release and move on from things that are no longer serving you. Place it somewhere in your space where you will see it every day, as a reminder to move through and release lower vibrations.
This bright, caramel-colored crystal ushers in prosperity and success. It can help raise self-esteem and confidence, and its connection to the sacral chakra promotes creativity and self-expression. A beloved jewel amongst ancient Roman and Victorian England Jewelers alike, it still hasn't lost any of its luster or popularity in the modern world. Carry it with you to lift your mood, boost your energy, and stimulate a healthy immune system.
Related to the powerful rose quartz, this delicate pink crystal is perfect for fostering feelings of self-love as well as affection and tenderness in others. Its gentle healing properties help relieve stress and encourage hope.
Local ceramic artist Bettina Chow has created a beautiful totem for 2021, and we’re so excited to have the limited edition project available for purchase in our shop. Each one is handcrafted and one-of-a-kind.

HELLO 2021! We are so glad to say goodbye to 2020, and so hopeful and excited for all of the new things to come this year.
]]>Here’s the thing about New Year’s: nothing has magically changed overnight. Stressors and problems still exist. We still and will always have work to do - individually, as a business, as a community, as a world. But the New Year is an encouragement and an opportunity to show up and to advocate for the changes and positive things we want to see in our world. We’re using this time to embrace hope and joy, and to continue to foster empathy and connection.
Most of all, the New Year is a time for us to thank you. Thank you, so very much, for supporting us and all of the other unique and hard-working small businesses that help make this city special. We truly could not have survived - and even thrived - in 2020 without your support. Thank you for your kindness to our amazing staff, your patience as we transitioned into a business model that allows us to serve you safely, and for gifting us the opportunity to create beautiful things for your celebrations, your sorrows, and your homes (a more sacred space than ever!)
We are so excited for the year ahead, and all of the changes and growth that we know it will bring - for us and for you.
x
Teresa

]]>The holidays are fun, but also often stressful. Decorating should always be the former! Thankfully, it’s easier than it seems to get a professionally-styled look. Read on for some of our favorite styling tips - for the holidays, and for any of your gatherings throughout the year.
]]>A general rule of thumb for styling: embrace the odd. Odd numbers, to be precise. It’s so simple, yet instantly effective. Arranging items in collections of 3’s, 5’s, 7’s, and so on, will make your table feel instantly polished. On that note, think of arranging things as if you’re creating invisible triangles. Sound weird? Think of how you naturally stagger things - candlesticks that are placed in a zig-zagging line or clusters look much more elegant than ones stiffly arranged in a straight line. It’s that je ne sais quoi factor that appeals to the eye.
When thinking of centerpieces for dinner parties, the go-to shape is long and short. A natural choice, since it’s not particularly enjoyable to have a conversation across the table with someone that you can barely see through a dense collection of flowers! However, it is possible to create a tabletop showstopper without sacrificing eye contact.
Use candles to create upward movement. Candlesticks are timeless and raise the romance-factor of any table immediately. And like a great pair of heels, you can dress them down... or to the nines. Add them in among lush arrangements or elevate a casual greenery garland. Alternatively, pillar candles in extravagantly tall glass vessels provide instant drama, without any visual obstruction.
Florals can go tall, too! Stick to thin stems or delicately sparse arrangements so that the beauty of your table doesn’t interfere with the flow of conversation.
The best objects and decor for your home take time and patience to find - and it’s worth it! There’s a definite difference between a space that feels collected and one that looks decorated. Your home will always look naturally styled when it’s filled exclusively with pieces that you have handpicked and absolutely adore. The best ways to find some amazing pieces? By finding unique work from small-scale artists and local designers, hunting for gems in thrift stores and antique shops, popping into hole-in-the-wall places when traveling, and only buying trendy items if you know they’ll fit with your look and that you’ll love them for years to come.
Consider all of the nooks in your home that you’ll be decorating. An overarching theme goes a long way to lend sophistication to your holiday decor, and carrying the same florals and greenery from room to room looks impossibly chic. Choose what colors and textures you want to play with, and lend them to all of your finishing touches; from the wreath on your front door and your entryway arrangement to your table settings and coffee table centerpiece.

]]>The eight days of Hanukkah should be filled with beauty and tradition! Here are our top picks for elegant decor and new holiday heirlooms to add to your collection.
]]>Start a new Hanukkah tradition with a minimalist menorah that is simple and modern. This Johnathan Adler beauty is carved from solid black and white marble and is a gorgeous way to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
A showstopper design in classic white and blue to bring beauty to every day of Hanukkah. We love this arrangement as an entryway piece or a kitchen island statement. Want the look for your table? We can transform this style into a lower, fuller centerpiece style for beautiful dinners.
No detail has been overlooked in the craftsmanship of this stunning Mezuzah from Johnathan Adler. Carved from solid brass and featuring a beautiful abstract Shin, it’s a reverent addition to your entryway.
Understated beauty for a festive door that doesn’t fall into kitschy territory. We love the simplicity of white wreaths and the natural textures and components that make them unique. Our wreaths are crafted lovingly by hand, and no two designs are the same.
We’ve used these petite bowls to hold everything from tealight candles to mini orchids, or as a party dish for Ruze Cake House’s rosemary cashews. Artful and unique, they elevate whatever you use them for.
Our Hanukkah box is the perfect quick, thoughtful gift for the season! Jonathan Adler's brass Mezuzah, cookies from Ruze Cake House inspired by the Festival of Lights, a hand-painted draidel, and more make this the perfect Hanukkah goodie box.
]]>We have gift ideas for everyone on your Christmas list. Check out our 2020 holiday gift guide!
]]>What is it about men that make them so inherently tough to shop for?! Whether you’re newly dating and basking in the honeymoon glow, or you know him in and out after years of partnership, the holidays always seem to present a dilemma. We’ve got some unique ideas for you!
Luxe essentials to kickstart his every morning. Creosote to awaken the senses (tell him to hang it in the shower!), local coffee, and natural toothpaste for kissable minty-fresh-breath. He’ll love the quirky Portuguese soap, a plant that’s tough to kill, and an earthy, decadent candle long into the new year.
Spa-like pampering isn’t just for the gals anymore! Binchotan charcoal is infused into the fibers of our Morihata body scrub towel, to draw out impurities for refreshed and glowing skin. Malin + Goetz is a cult favorite, perfect for sensitive skin or for anyone who loves clean, neutral scents.
It’s one thing to snag him his favorite whiskey or scotch - take it to another level by gifting this beautiful decanter to store it! Mouth-blown in a moody hue from Tom Dixon, it’s a piece of art that will look beautiful on the home bar and will make him feel as suave as Don Draper when he pours for guests.
I mean… how cool is this?? We love the quirky, playful take on a potted plant that will fit right at home among his jerseys and home gym equipment. Added bonus? It’s an eco-friendly recycling project giving a second life to imperfect basketballs that didn’t make it to shelves.
We all have that one girlfriend who’s impossibly cool. The one who always has the best wine recommendations, knows the hidden gems in New York or Paris, and always manages to pull together the most gorgeous outfits from “Oh this? It’s thrifted!” finds. What thoughtful, perfect present can you possibly provide? May we suggest:
The unique gift that keeps on giving! Sign her up for continuous floral deliveries, to fill her house with beautiful blooms for up to a year. It’s a subscription for twelve arrangements (you pick the frequency - once a week, every other week, or once a month!) that will be delivered directly to her door. She’ll think of you each time she receives her beautiful seasonal florals, lovingly arranged by our designers and ready to pop in a vase (and let’s face it, she probably owns an impressive collection of handcrafted vases!)
There’s a reason we have guests who religiously visit us to restock on this incense. Tennen is a maker, architect, and designer based here in Phoenix. They offer moody, earthy scents and light, floral notes alike, inspired by our desert home. Pick a signature scent that you know she’ll love, or gift her a variety to suit every mood. Bonus points for an incense holder that is a work of art in its own right.
We’re pretty sure there’s a general rule that every sophisticated lady tends to keep a journal or artistically customized day planner. To that effect, help her write, draw, and jot down appointments in style! The minimalist, clean style of Blackwing’s journals will match any bag she throws them in, and the pencils are oh-so-pretty replacements for basic ballpoint pens.

You’ve come to the right place. Here’s just a taste of all the beautiful growing things we have in the shop. Whether they’re new to plant parenthood or they’re a seasoned pro, we’ll have something they’ll love!
These pots go beyond the typical potted plant. Our Monsoons and Great Basins are beautiful arrangements of various cacti and succulents, complimented by various crystals. They’re perfect for patios and sunny indoor spots alike.
Even if every inch of her house feels like a jungle, this is one that’s always sure to stand out as a show-stopper. Elegant orchids look all the more graceful in this beautiful Johnathan Adler Dora Maar vase. Simply put, it’s the most stunningly elegant potted plant in our shop.
Pretty gardening equipment is a luxe treat for plant moms who usually prioritize purchasing new plants over new watering cans. Step up the aesthetics of her weekly watering routine and pruning schedule!

Challenging in the best of times, it has been an especially hard year for small businesses. We’ve sadly seen this pandemic push so many small business owners to a breaking point, and so many shops and restaurants across the country have had to shutter their doors for the last time. There have been a lot of tough decisions to make. Do we stay open or close down? How do we take care of our employees’ physical and financial health? How do we keep our guests safe?
Your kindness, your support, and your love for flowers have kept us going. We are also so proud of and thankful for each and every one of our fellow Phoenix small businesses, who have weathered this storm with grit, determination, flexibility and empathy. We’re so sad that we’re unable to host our annual Small Business Saturday pop-up market at the shop this year, but we’ve rounded up a shortlist of some of our favorites that we’re sending a virtual hug to! Show some love to the places that bring you joy and work so hard to bring unique home goods, food, and experiences to Phoenix.
Right next door to us on 42nd Place and Indian School Road, Metier Pharmacy is the super-charming alternative to charmless big chain pharmacies. Pop in for small-town vibes, where your neighborhood pharmacist knows your name, the staff takes time to help you customize your wellness needs, and the shelves are stocked with beautiful items and remedies for a healthy life for your entire family.
Phoenix’s coffee scene is outstanding and has only been growing more wonderful. Our always go-to among the myriad of amazing choices is Provision, right down the street from us on Campbell and 32nd street. The staff is unbelievably kind, the espresso is always perfectly-extracted, and the space is a soothing spot to work from or meet up with friends. Try out their brand new cocktail service on the weekends for a relaxing date night!
Our love for Ruze is no secret (have you tried their rosemary cashews, lemon lavender shortbread cookies, or chocolate-covered pretzels that we carry in the shop??) Their chic space off of Main Street in Old Town Scottsdale is adorable and open for takeout, and their homemade sweet treats feature locally-sourced ingredients. Commission them for your next celebration - their custom macarons, cakes, cookies and cupcakes are as delicious as they are beautiful!
We always find something beautiful at Noons. The 7th Avenue boutique is a staple for Phoenix’s resident cool crowd - and with good reason! Their thoughtfully curated collection is a mixture of vintage clothes (from Deep End Vintage) and accessories, beauty products, art, and artisan objects. Stop in to find the next amazing gem for your home or the perfect gift for your most discerning friend.
There’s nothing better this time of year than popping on a record, opening up all the windows and relaxing with a glass of wine. And the best place to build your collection? Stinkweeds. The small shop on Camelback Road is currently offering shopping by appointment, so you can relax and browse their eclectic collection in socially-distanced peace. The staff always has great recommendations and love to chat about anything and everything music. You’ll always be able to find a great album to take home from their collection of new and used vinyl, CDs, and cassettes.

]]>If you’re in Arizona like us (or you’re one of our Southwest neighbors) the Pilgrim vibes don’t always work with our decor and architecture - and can definitely feel out of place among saguaros or joshua trees. Celebrate Thanksgiving with a desert touch for an elegant table that feels at home under our expansive skies.
If it’s East Coast vibes you’re craving and you’re dreaming of copper-colored leaves, Thanksgiving is the perfect time to roll out all the stops. Here’s how to embrace table decor that’s as comforting and familiar as pumpkin pie:
“Spark joy” this season by being super selective about what you add to your table. A clean, sparse tablescape leaves more room for your delicious food to stand out!
Minimalism’s rowdy sister is having a major moment. A break-the-mold response to the cool whites and clean lines of the Scandanavian influences that have reigned supreme over the last few years, maximalism embraces, well, everything else. Think rich jewel tones, metallic sheens, over-the-top patterns and quirky collections of thrift store finds. Bring this look to your table:
Your Thanksgiving table decor is incomplete without flowers, in our humble opinion! We’ve rounded up our favorite Thanksgiving centerpieces that will wow your guests and make you feel extra thankful.
]]>What are we most thankful for in 2020? That it’s finally drawing to an end! While flowers are always a gorgeous addition to any table, it feels especially fitting this year. We’ve been clinging to anything and everything beautiful and calming during this crazy and stressful time - as we’re sure you have too! What better way to celebrate the season of thanks than with beautiful blooms? Check out our designers’ recommendations for your Thanksgiving florals.
It’s so elegant and gorgeous. The white blooms are beautiful and simple and the greenery is a little wild - like beautiful controlled chaos. I always tell clients that have modern or minimalist homes that this is the perfect arrangement.
Loves classic fall colors. The dahlias and scabiosa are so rich and moody in this arrangement, while the garden roses give a bright pop of soft sunset. It reminds me of a hidden moonlit garden and it’s a show-stopping centerpiece for a long table.
The kid’s table! This petite arrangement is also brilliant for adding a ton of florals to your table in a way that’s really flexible for fitting in the most important items - the food! I love to scatter 5-7 mason jars down the entire length of my table, so everyone gets to enjoy flowers in front of them.
It’s funky and fun! The vessel alone is gorgeous, and the flowers take it over the top. It reminds me of modern cornucopia vibes: a ton of abundance spilling out onto the table. The contrasting white florals and rust-colored magnolia leaves with the touch of deep purple... SO chic.
I already have a zillion-and-one vases at home! I love our wraps because they’re affordable, quick, and easy - you don’t have to completely rearrange them like the ones you get at the grocery store. I pop them in my favorite vase and they’re good to go.
I love dense arrangements with minimal greenery, so this one is great. It’s the perfect centerpiece for Thanksgiving because it’s low and compact, so you don’t have to strain to see the person sitting across from you - very important for someone petite like me!
Check out our full offering of Thanksgiving centerpieces here. You can place your order online, by phone, or in-store. Delivery and pick up options available until 6pm on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.

]]>This summer hit us a bit out of the blue (blue, blue skies). With the state of our world, everything seems to be moving in slow motion and yet in fast forward all at once. We are in the process of learning and becoming part of the movement so much bigger than our flower shop, but we know we must be part of the solution.
Remember the entire month of June - Camelback Flowershop is donating 10% of all Camelback Flowershop profits to the following charities:
and our personal favorite...
Desert Rose:
The Desert Rose symbolises all things that are possible. They enhance love and teamwork, they tell you to go for your dreams without restraint and help to dissolve self imposed restrictions. Desert Roses can be used to strengthen affirmation of purpose in your life.
Smokey Quartz:
Smokey Quartz dissipates blocked energy & negativity, providing a mildly sedative affect, helping you to relax. It is an excellent stone for mediation as it assists in grounding, centering and enhancing awareness, dream recollection and channelling abilities.
Citrine:
Citrine is a powerful cleansing and revitalizing stone, invigorating and awakening the mind, body and soul. It attracts abundance and prosperity into our lives.

Check the shop for everyday arrangements...we hope they bring you and/or your recipient's joy.
