Auntie Oti sources domestic goods from India that exude a quiet beauty and are woven by hand and personified by the individual touch of a skilled artisan. Khadi, a fabric woven by hand from hand-spun yarn, was produced in India for centuries before the Industrial Revolution. It was revived by M.K. Gandhi in the 1920's in his pursuit of rural self-reliance, and Indians asserted their economic independence over Great Britain by spinning, weaving, and wearing their own cloth. Today, this slow community-based method defies generic mass-produced products and supports Indian communities and artisans.
