International Women's Day is this Monday, March 8th!
Camelback Flowershop would not exist without the creative, hard-working, intelligent, talented, and tenacious women that have worked with us over the years. We love International Women’s Day because we love any excuse to celebrate and honor all of the astounding women that make our lives so vibrant and filled with so much grace and compassion.
Our team especially inspires us. To mark the occasion this year, we’ve asked our staff about the women that inspire them, and we want to take a moment to celebrate the ladies that they love.
Who are the women in your life that inspire you?
“Chanel Miller. She’s the author of Know My Name. She’s inspired me to reflect on myself. To view the different facets of myself in the past, in my present, and what’s possible for my future. Reading her book helped me view myself as more human. I used to think of vulnerability as a weakness, but she’s helped me to shift my perspective and celebrate it instead.”
- Prue
“My mom and my sister. They never hesitate to lift me up when I need it most. My boyfriend's mom. She’s so supportive and she’s always a pillar of strength.”
- RiRi
“Mia Bianco. She’s the most patient human I've ever met - and wickedly funny and insanely smart. She's a fucking inspiration, that one. Everyone here in the shop. We have some badass babes here, who are all so unique, and every single one is so good at so many different things. I admire them all. Charleen Badman. She advocates for people all the time and is incredibly talented. When she won her James Beard Award, she used the spotlight to highlight and celebrate other people in the state. I love her humility and her passion for her work.”
- Erin
“Morgan Harper Nichols. She’s an artist, poet, feminist, and mental health advocate. Her work is beautiful and everything that she posts on Instagram is really inspiring and uplifting, which is really refreshing!”
-Trinity
“My mom. She launched her own business while she was a stay-at-home mom ten years ago. Now, she has three stores throughout Arizona, and she never complains about the stress or the difficulties. I want to be as successful as her one day.”
- Clara
“Frida Kahlo. I love the way that she loved. I admire how strong she was, and the grace she had in coping with her pain and hardships. Teresa. It’s amazing to work with her and learn from her. She's so talented, creative, and an amazing business woman.”
- Maria
“My twin sister. She’s a badass mother, I look up to her so much. My mom. She is also an amazing mother and such a hard worker. She raised us while also following her dreams to work as an entrepreneur. They're both so strong, and they push me to be better.”
- Marin
“Mel Kadel. I’m lucky to have one of her pieces, and it brings me so much joy! Her perception makes me think of life a little differently. I’m so inspired by her work, her creativity, and the success that she’s built and worked so hard for.”
- Lori
“My mom. She's my best friend and she always knows exactly the right thing to say. My boyfriend's mom. She’s such a kind spirit and is such a good mom to her boys!”
- Madie
“Patti Smith. She’s a badass who paved the way for women in arts and music. Also, in the chaos of today’s world, her Instagram feels like one of the last safe and gentle spaces on the internet, for which I’m really grateful.”
- Kathryn
“My grandma. She's had a difficult life but you wouldn’t know it from how joyful and positive she is. She’s an artist. She always looks for beauty in everything and has always been very encouraging. When I was a kid she would take us outside and point out to us all of the beautiful things in nature. She’s 84 now, yet she still insists on being the caretaker for her best friend, who’s 95!”
- Kristena
“Yrsa Daley-Ward. Her writing is beautiful and evokes so much feeling - reading her work was literally life-changing for me. Plus, being around her energy feels like basking in the sun. She’s so full of curiosity and zest and compassion. My best friend Kaitlynn. She has so much energy and works so hard, it’s crazy. She’s also one of the most compassionate and caring people I’ve ever met, and I admire her capacity and desire to always help people... and dogs! My mom. She’s endlessly patient, unconditionally loving, and super wise. I look up to her so much.”
- Alana
“My daughter. Every day she amazes me with her talent, her creativity, and her genuine kindness. She's an incredible artist and entrepreneur, who’s so independent and driven to succeed in all of her dreams.”
- Jess
“Artemisia Gentileschi. She was a Baroque painter in Italy, a profession that was virtually inaccessible to women at the time. Her trailblazing is so inspiring to me, and she is now recognized as one of the most progressive painters of the period. On top of her artistic skill, she was also incredibly brave because she went to trial against a man who sexually assaulted her and won the case - something completely unheard of at that time.”
- Elle
“Everyone at the shop. I am insanely inspired by the women I'm surrounded by at work. Each and every single gal brings their own magical energy to the shop to make up a truly badass team of women who will always go out of their way to lift each other up.”
- Miranda
